He served as a prosecutor in the state’s busiest county (Cumberland) before serving as an assistant and Deputy DA in Hancock and Washington counties.  He has successfully prosecuted or defended every kind of felony and misdemeanor crime for more than thirty years. “I know the responsibilities of the District Attorney’s office: to vigorously, fairly and respectfully represent victims. I am ready to meet those challenges head-on!”

Former Deputy District Attorney Steve Juskewitch has been a candidate as an independent for District Attorney in Hancock and Washington counties.  He practices law in both counties from his Ellsworth office.  He lives in Dedham, Maine with his wife, Andrea Allen. The couple has five children.

He has a 1970 BA in Economics from the University of Maine and a law degree from the Maine Law School in 1976.  As an Army officer for twenty-eight years, he served with the 82d Abn Div, commanded two drill sergeant companies, and taught leadership, personnel, financial management, and problem solving at Ft. Leavenworth.

Juskewitch has been an independent candidate, “because criminal prosecution is not about politics; it’s about professionalism, fairness and hard work.  To me, justice means the right person convicted of (or admitting to) the right crime for the right reasons with a fair consequence every time. A plea bargain should be fair, not a bargain!”

His highest priorities will be cases involving violence of any kind and prosecution of major drug dealers … “the approach in drug cases will change from smelt fishing in shallow waters, to more trophy fishing in deep waters.”

Juskewitch said that he would develop and lead a motivated and cohesive staff at the District Attorney’s offices adding that “timely actions, integrity, and fairness will be the hallmarks of my administration.”

Juskewitch asks voters to become informed and to vote!  And respectfully asked for the privilege to serve as your new District Attorney.
