Steve Juskewitch for District Attorney :
Who would you trust to vigorously protect you and your family from crime?

ELLSWORTH — Local attorney Steven Juskewitch is running as an Republican candidate for the office of District 7 district attorney, which prosecutes cases in Hancock and Washington counties.

The term of current District Attorney Matt Foster expires in November. Foster is seeking re-election as a Republican.

I am running for District Attorney in Hancock and Washington counties because I can do a better job than is currently being done. I have successfully prosecuted more serious felony trials than all of the current prosecutors combined.

I was a prosecutor in Cumberland County before I became an assistant district attorney and then Deputy District Attorney in Hancock and Washington counties. I know the people and the territory.

My skills and experience will reduce the number of crime victims in Hancock and Washington counties by coordinating police-prosecutor investigations and training programs; fully integrating drug courts; focusing on early juvenile intervention with family support and counseling services; utilizing drug rehabilitation programs which recognize and treat mental, emotional and addiction issues; and deterring crime with timely consequences and firm sentences which recognize the injury caused to crime victims.

The current drug problem is a health crisis. The war is on the drug dealers.

This isn't a new learning experience for me. I understand the District Attorney’s obligations and responsibilities to protect citizens and to represent the police.

Being District Attorney is challenging, hard work which requires the experience and sound judgment I have. For 42 years I have been a successful prosecutor and trial attorney.

I graduated from UMO in 1970 with a BA in Economics and received my JD from the University of Maine School of Law in 1976 after serving my initial active military duty. I served as an Army officer for 28 years with the 82nd Airborne Division, commanded two drill sergeant companies, was the S1/Adjutant for an Infantry Battalion and the 1011st USARF School, and then taught leadership, personnel, financial management and problem solving at Fort Leavenworth, KS

I live in Dedham with my wife, Andrea, along with our 5 1/2 year old Australian Shepherd (Portia) and ten week old Belgian Tiger/Maine Coon kitten (Bella) while our five children are scattered all along the East Coast.
